Winter is generally one of the least favorite seasons that we endure each year, especially in Omaha. From the freezing cold winds to the snowy conditions, it can be easy to decide to run home from work each day and stay inside where it is much cozier. However, residing indoors for months at a time can cause some serious cabin fever, and chances are if you are feeling this way, so is your dog.

Winter is not exactly prosperous weather, and there are not many outdoor activities you can participate in without having to worry about your pup getting frostbitten. To get your dog’s brain out of fog mode and bust the boredom, try going to one, or all, of these five dog friendly locations to add some fun and diversity to their lives during the cold months.

Come Sit Stay – 7001 S 180th St.

The first excellent location that provides awesome Winter activities for pups is Come Sit Stay. They have a variety of different services, including boarding, grooming, training, and the most popular one which is doggie daycare.

Daycare is a great option for those Winter days when the temps drop below freezing, and it is dangerous for you and your dog to be outside for extended periods of time. Come Sit Stay offers hourly and daily daycare rates, making them a perfect place to drop off your dog to get exercise, socialize, and learn separation anxiety coping mechanisms while you are at work or running errands.

Barks N Brews – 13730 P St.

Barks N Brews is a dog friendly bar that lets both pups and their owners engage with others. For the humans, they serve beer, wine, and mixed drinks, while providing dog beer and DogGurt for their four-legged friends. They also offer an indoor off-leash dog park that is attached to the bar, which makes this a perfect place to play during those cold Nebraska Winters.

Barks N Brews also has drop off doggie daycare services. They even provide webcam access so you can view your dog and watch them have fun while you are away. Before entering into the dog bar, ensure your dog is up to date on all vaccinations and pre-register for quicker entrancing.

The Green Spot – 110 S. 71 St. K

Not only does The Green Spot offer dog products such as food, treats, and toys, they also feature dog grooming and self-service dog washing to clean away all that Winter yuck off of your dog, leaving them feeling rejuvenated.

In addition, this location avidly conducts in-store and community events on a regular basis, which they promote on their website. Even if you do not feel like participating in the activities, you can still freely use their in-store doggie library while your pup can explore and relax in their Spot Lounge.

Dogtopia – 14485 West Center Road, 13932 Portal Dr. Suite 103, 15504 Spaulding Plaza c03

Heading over to Dogtopia is ideal for those cold days. Their location is precisely 70 degrees all year round, making it a perfect environment regardless of how snowy it is outside. This utopian place offers an abundance of services such as daycare, boarding, training, and even a spa that uses only the best and safest products.

They host an off-leash and spacious facility so your dog can run freely while still being supervised by trained professionals. With webcam servicing, you are able to check in on your pup any time you desire.

Omaha Dog Bar – 1231 S. 14th St.

Omaha Dog Bar is a place you will not want to miss out on. It is said to be Nebraska’s first dog park bar and restaurant combo. With their climate-controlled 4,000 sq. ft. indoor puppy park and lavishing bar for the humans, everyone can enjoy the extended features for a positive overall experience.

They host events frequently that you and your dog will be able to participate in as well.  The best part? For every occasion, they bring in a professional photographer so you can capture those precious memories. For access, check out the membership page to determine which package is the best one for you.

Dogs can get just as stir crazy as you can when cooped up inside during those long Omaha Winter days. Nothing is worse or more disappointing for them than wanting to release built-up energy and play, but not being able to. Sure, Spring will eventually come, and they will be able to run around outside again soon, but that does not help them in the present. By going to the dog friendly locations mentioned above, your pup will be able to release energy, play, and socialize with other dogs, which surely result in slobbery “thank you” kisses.
